Abstract
Butyrate is a widely researched small molecule thought to have significant health benefits in the colon, including acting as a nutrient, as a chemo-
preventive bioactive, and regulating multiple cellular processes including cell cycle, cell death and tissue organisation. In this talk I will survey the literature and show how engineering-driven methods including proteomics and high-throughput microscopy, coupled to qualitative and quantitative modelling can yield an integrative understanding of butyrate’s action.
